between him and the Executive and Assistant Engineers. 18, however, more important he would in the absence of the Director, on leave; or in the event of sickness; discharge his duties, which involve a seat on the Legislate, and, in some instances, on the Executive Council of Goverment.

the staff of some other colony. I may mention the names of Mr.

A.A. Brine, formerly in Mauritius, and now at St. Helena,w

who is

expected to return shortly. Also Mr. A.M. Quill, now at

Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Both these gentlemen have done good

Mr.

Quill was actually a member of the

Hong Kong staff, which he left, mainly for private reasons, but

with an excellent record.

I have the honour to be,

Gentlemen,

Your obedient Servant,

Orbert. Chadatak.
